Verari Systems and Cluster File Systems Partner to Deliver Shared File Systems for Blade Computing

By Mike LaPan (858) 874-3800

SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- November 9, 2004 -- Verari Systems™, the premier developer of powerful, platform-independent blade server systems, and Cluster File Systems™, the designers and developers of the Lustre™ file system, have announced today that they have partnered to deliver breakthrough price/performance capabilities in a shared file system for customers worldwide. Through this joint development, deployment and marketing relationship, Verari Systems and CFS™ have developed optimized architectures for Lustre using the Verari Systems BladeRack® family of blade servers and the VS family of Fibre Channel attached storage systems.

The combined offering delivers dramatically improved price/performance advantages for clustered computing users seeking to leverage the system performance of the Verari Systems BladeRack® systems. The Verari Systems BladeRack® is a high-performance computing platform that leverages the advantages of open source computing, Verari Systems’ patented vertical cooling system and up to 176 powerful processors in a single rack.

Clustered computing processors, busses, and interconnects are becoming more powerful. Inherently this trend has been moving the performance bottleneck into data flow to and from the compute clusters. The Lustre shared file system architecture combined with high-performance servers delivers almost unlimited data throughput and allows for maximum utilization of the computing resources.

“This partnership brings together the resources of Verari Systems and CFS to deliver the Lustre shared file system capabilities as integrated hardware and software,” said David Driggers, CEO of Verari Systems. “This collaboration allows us to provide our blade computing customers with a balanced, supported infrastructure with low-cost, scalable performance.”

“Customers can immediately benefit from the partnership between CFS and Verari Systems,” said Phil Schwan, CEO of Cluster File Systems. “The Lustre file system, tuned for Verari’s cluster solutions, will make an ideal platform for Lustre users.”
